What it is
Spinal discs can bulge, herniate, or thin with age. Not every disc change causes pain, but when it does, conservative care is often a reasonable first step.
Conditions it may help with
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Degenerative disc disease
- Radiating pain
- Pinched nerves
How evaluation and treatment work
Spinal decompression is commonly used for disc conditions, along with gentle adjustments and supportive care when appropriate.
What to expect at your appointment
Imaging you already have can be reviewed; new X-rays are taken only when clinically appropriate.
Common questions
Can I avoid surgery?
Many people with disc problems improve with conservative care, but no outcome can be guaranteed. Dr. Homsey will tell you honestly if a surgical consultation is warranted.
Some symptoms call for medical evaluation beyond chiropractic care — for example numbness that is spreading, loss of bladder or bowel control, unexplained weight loss, fever with back pain, or pain following serious trauma. If anything in your exam suggests another provider is needed, Dr. Homsey will tell you and help coordinate a referral.
