What it is
Non-surgical spinal decompression uses a computer-controlled table to apply gentle, cycling traction to the spine. The aim is to reduce pressure on discs and nerves and create a better environment for healing.
Conditions it may help with
- Herniated or bulging discs
- Degenerative disc conditions
- Sciatica
- Radiating arm or leg pain
- Chronic low back or neck pain
How evaluation and treatment work
You lie comfortably on the table while a harness is fitted. The system slowly lengthens and relaxes the spine in programmed cycles. Sessions typically last 20–30 minutes and are scheduled as a series.
What to expect at your appointment
Most people find decompression relaxing; some fall asleep. Your progress is reassessed during the plan, and the program is adjusted as needed.
Common questions
Is spinal decompression right for everyone?
No. It may not be appropriate after spinal fusion, with certain fractures, advanced osteoporosis, pregnancy, or some other conditions. An evaluation determines whether you are a candidate.
How many sessions are needed?
It varies by condition. Dr. Homsey will discuss a recommended plan after your evaluation.
Some symptoms call for medical evaluation beyond chiropractic care — for example numbness that is spreading, loss of bladder or bowel control, unexplained weight loss, fever with back pain, or pain following serious trauma. If anything in your exam suggests another provider is needed, Dr. Homsey will tell you and help coordinate a referral.
